Introduction to us

Dehiwala- Mt. Lavinia municipal council, as the second largest municipal council among the local government institutions possess a reputed history and operates with a vision of “Developing Dehiwala- Mount Lavinia as a role model in Asia through stepping to sustainable development from ensuring better governing processes. Therefore, sport department has contributed a lot to achieve the vison of DMMC.

Sports department was established on 28.02.1998 to achieve following objectives

Generate strong, healthy youth to uplift the municipality via enhancing hidden sport talents of the youth in order to develop the mental health of the people
Strengthen the future of the sports by helping national and international level sportsmen
Help the welfare organizations, schools, temples, dhamma schools to success their activities
Develop the harmony among religions by providing financial aids to religious activities
Provide required assistance when and where people become helpless due to natural disasters

Department of sports possesses one (1) memorial theatre, two (2) function halls, eleven (11) public play grounds, one (1) park, six (6) stadiums, fourteen (14) children’s parks and sixteen (16) gymnasiums. Sport officer, development officer, four (4) playground instructors, two (2) play ground guardians, 59 office employee service’s employees are working in this department and they are supervising and maintaining above memorial halls, function halls, stadiums, public grounds, children parks and gymnasiums for the betterment of public.
