Mr. Danasiri Amaratunga has entered politics in 1997 as a Municipal Councilor for Dehiwala – Mt Lavinia Municipal Council. In 2002 he was elected as the Mayor of Dehiwala – Mt Lavinia. People gave him the privilege of being the youngest Mayor in Sri Lanka. In 2011 he got the highest preferential votes in history for the Municipal Council elections in Sri Lanka. He has served the people with dedication and was responsible for many development projects. As the Mayor he was responsible for a disciplined administration in the council.
In 2009 he was appointed as the Chief organizer for Dehiwala of the ruling party. This gave him the opportunity to serve the people more than before. He was born in Dehiwala, and had education at St. John’s College, Nugegoda, and Royal College, Colombo. He went abroad for higher studies and obtained a degree in Business Management at the Los Angeles State University, USA.
